Epitope for use in therapeutics, tests and vaccines

Diseases caused by bacteria of Enterobacteriaceae family are still an important medical problem, especially in developing countries. The diarrhoea being the result of bacterial infection is the third cause of death among children of up to five years old. Additionally, there is a major problem with antibiotic resistant bacterial strains in developed countries. Therefore, it would be highly beneficial to develop vaccines against opportunistic bacterial pathogens of gastrointestinal system for prevention of Enterobacteriaceae infections.

For the commercialisation, we offer a newly discovered bacterial epitope having highly preferable properties for the production of i.a. vaccines against Enterobacteriaceae. Additionally, it is suitable for the manufacturing of affinity resin for isolation of specific antibodies from serum of donors to be used as a therapeutic preparation, as well as for the purposes of diagnosing of humoral immunodeficiency.

The epitope of the invention is designed to resolve the unmet medical need for the effective vaccine against Enterobacteriaceae, especially Shigella genus. It is safe, as it does not contain any redundant, neutral or potentially negative parts, which are characteristic of the whole immunogenic protein. In the contrary to classic vaccines, the synthetic vaccine developed based on the peptide of the invention is inexpensive and applicable for large scale production.
