Active efflux is a mechanism responsible for moving of toxic substances and antibiotics out of the cell. It is important in medicine, as it can contribute to bacterial antibiotic resistance or cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy.
We have developed a novel chemical compound, which is an inhibitor of efflux pumps, type ABC. The compound is designated to be used e.g. as an anticancer drug, as it inhibits the efflux of toxic, anticancer chemotherapeutics from cancer cells being treated.
The compound offers the possibility to increase the efficiency of anticancer or antibacterial therapies, as it inhibits the efflux of some of the drugs.
- Anticancer drug
- Efflux pumps inhibitor
