“iLab: Laboratory of Innovation” – with Gazeta Wyborcza we start the next edition of a community action

Nationwide community action “iLab: Laboratory of Innovation”, the partner of which is Wroclaw Research Centre EIT +, began with the question of whether Poland must copy the Silicon Valley to create its own indigenous innovation? Then, during the debate in the Pracze Campus, which was attended, among others, by Lena Kolarska-Bobińska – Minister of Science and Higher Education; Iwona Wendel – Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development and Rafał Dutkiewicz – Mayor of Wroclaw, they realized that the first step that we need to do all, is to change the way of thinking about innovation.

10 years of Polish membership in the European Union allowed for a huge leap forward. New roads, world-class laboratories, technology parks, research and development organizations, all this guarantees huge possibilities. But in spite of everything, all the time appear the questions about ways to awaken the Polish economy and our breakthrough technologies.

The community action, the partner of which is the Wroclaw Research Centre EIT+ is therefore aimed at finding answers to the questions regarding the Polish economy, but also change the way of thinking of Poles on innovation. “Hard” and easily measurable data such as the number of new technology parks, laboratories, granted patents are important, but we forget about another key factor to creating an innovative country – of social capital. This social capital, i.e. trust, openness and ability to cooperate, creates synergies between science, business and administration, which results in economic effects.

During this edition we want to show that the Polish people from different backgrounds can work together and jointly create a new quality of cooperation at the line of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises with research and development centres is important and can result with specific results. Gazeta Wyborcza also will present:

• Polish innovations that have been created and implemented through the cooperation of different backgrounds,
• places where researchers and young companies can present their innovations to the world,
• entrepreneurs investing in research and development,
• investments in competencies of people (scientists, engineers).
