Biotechnological laboratories

Biotechnological laboratories will be placed in buildings no. 1, 9 and 9a. Apart from basic research being conducted, most of them will undergo a certification process in order to enable measurements upon request.

Initially, for the period of the first two years, these laboratories will serve research projects provided in BioMed project, while their equipment will allow also other research groups on the territory of Wroclaw, Poland or Europe to use the equipment.

1. Laboratory for structural analysis

a. Workroom NMR 700, 500 and 400 MHZ

b. EPR and FTIR Workroom

c. Crystalographic Workroom

d. Crystallization rooms

e. Workroom for High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry

f. Workroom for Microscopy

g. Fluorescent in VIVO Workroom

2. Laboratory for molecular modelling

3. Laboratory for immunochemistry, pathogens, molecular microbiology

4. Laboratory for syntheses of new materials

5. Laboratory for cellular imaging

6. Laboratory for bacteriological bases, culture fluids with washing room and sterilization

7. Laboratory for bionanotechnology

8. Laboratory for target drug delivery

9. Laboratory for modulation of RNA catalytic activity

10. Laboratory of Hemiaminals

11. Laboratory for Biomarkers

12. Laboratory for Diagnostics of Cancer Diseases

13. Specialist Biotechnological Laboratory

Biotechnological laboratories will be equipped in BSL-1-2-3 standards (level of safety with regard to biological hazard), depending on the requirements for particular laboratory types. All rooms shall be air-conditioned, with floors possible to be cleaned, resistant to acids and bases. The following gases will be supplied to laboratory tables: air, vacuum and propane-butane. Organic substance, acids and bases shall be kept in special fireproof cabinets intended for this purpose. In each laboratory a smoke sensor will be installed as well as a shower to use in case of sudden danger. Laboratories are also planned to be equipped with a system monitoring the number people, as well as a system of controlled access.

Biomimetics imitates nature. In the BioMed project, intelligent forms of medicines are worked on which recognise sick cells; the operation of medicines is patterned on the rule of functioning of the viruses which recognise and then infect the cell.
